Students from School of Foreign Languages Achieve Success in the 31st Han Suyin International Translation Competition

Recently, the 31st Han Suyin International Translation Competition award ceremony was held in Beijing. After a fierce competition, three students from the School of Foreign Languages stood out from many competitors around the world and achieved great results. Ma Jing, a second-year present master, won the third prize in the English-Chinese Translation Group. Ouyang Yunjing, a first-year postgraduate, and He Zhihui, the undergraduate of English 1701, got the award of merit in Chinese-English Translation Group.

The 31st Han Suyin International Translation Competition in 2019 was co-sponsored by the China Translation Association, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Fujian Normal University, and co-organized by the Editorial Department of Chinese Translators Journal, the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and the School of Foreign Languages of Fujian Normal University. The competition brought together outstanding participants from all professions at home and abroad, and received a total of 11,900 valid translations. After three rounds of rigorous review and final discussions, 346 winners were selected, and the winning rate was only 2.9%. In view of the fact that our school actively organized students to participate and achieved excellent results, our school has won the "Best Organization Award" issued by the competition organizing committee.

In recent years, the School of Foreign Languages has always adhered to the student-centered approach, attaching great importance to the talent training measures of "training, using, and practicing", and effectively improving students' practical ability to use foreign languages. In the future, the School of Foreign Languages will continue to organize and encourage students to participate in various subject competitions, apply what they have learned, cultivate solid and superb professional skills, and strive to achieve better results on a larger and broader foreign language subject competition platform.
